Brief Biography

Dr. Ronan Sulpice is a Lecturer in the School of Natural Sciences at the University of Galway since 2012. He has published over 120 papers and is a highly cited researcher. He obtained his PhD (Plant Biology) from the University of Rennes (France) in 2000. This was followed by Researcher positions at the National Institute for Basic Biology (Japan), the Technical University of Munich (Germany), and the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (Germany).

Dr Sulpice interests have focused at elucidating in photosynthetic organisms the cross talk between primary metabolism and growth, with special emphasis at how environmental cues modulate them. Major questions his lab currently investigates are the regulatory pathways involved in the use of photosynthetates for growth and adaptation to the environment, by use of state of the art technologies for phenotyping, metabolite profiling and molecular studies. Nowadays, his lab investigates natural variation in growth and biochemical content, particularly in seaweeds, aiming at identifying genes and pathways underlying such variations, with the aim at developing seaweed breeding programmes for aquaculture.
